PASADENA BAKERY GARNERS FANS AND FAME EVEN BEFORE GRAND OPENING
Bad Ash Bakes attracts lines of customers during soft opening after gaining tens of thousands of online followers
What started as a one-woman cookie pop-up by a private chef turned influencer is now a full-on bakery.
âIt sort of took on a life of its own,â founder Ashley Cunningham told LAist. âI started making a lot of cookies. People wanted to buy them, so I used to sell cookies out of my kitchen.â
The bakery operates daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during its soft opening at 247 E Colorado Boulevard, according to food journalist Kristie Hang.
The grand opening has not yet been announced.
The morning menu includes matcha cinnamon rolls, banana bread, coffee cake and muffins, while afternoon items feature cornbread cookies, red velvet cake, brownies and banana pudding, according to The Infatuation.
âIâm from the South, so Iâm like very critical of banana pudding,â Keisha Johnson of North Hollywood told LAist after her second visit since the soft opening. âThatâs my favorite dessert, and [Cunningham] nailed it. So your grandma got some competition for sure.â
Cunninghamâs baking began as a hobby when making a wedding cake for her cousin, she told LAist, while working as a private chef for NBA players.
âOur tagline is âlove made visible,â and to see so many people come in here so excited ⊠itâs so fulfilling,â Cunningham told LAist. âWhatâs making me the happiest is that it meets their expectations.â
